A dual-layer synthesiser that allows mixing of complementary sounds or duophonic performance, Moog’s new Mariana promises ‘audio layering and processing, merging the soul of Moog bass with user-friendly technology’.
Supporting iOS devices, as well as macOS and Windows DAW platforms, each layer in Mariana is built around two oscillators with a sub-oscillator for further low-end weight. There are also two resonant Moog filters and a third filter specifically for the sub-oscillator.
Tube, tape and overdrive saturation types are available, with a compressor to glue bass lines, alongside an illuminating real-time metering section. Built-in delay and chorus effects operate on separate layers and can expand the stereo image while preserving a solid mono image.
There are 200 included presets offered as a starting point and, although Mariana is optimised for bass, it is capable of producing strong leads, punchy percussion and multidimensional effects.
Mariana’s resizable user interface is designed for quick and efficient operation. Combined with a creative and extremely deep modulation editor, Mariana excels at in-depth sound design and sounds that dynamically evolve over time.
Nearly every parameter of Mariana can be modulated internally via Midi, MPE and virtual CV to build an interconnected ecosystem in a DAW. There is an expressive on-screen keyboard for use with iPad and standalone desktop versions, and comprehensive integration into a DAW.
