BassBoss has released the Makara-Mk3 Double 21-inch Powered Subwoofer, promising the impact and depth of a much larger subwoofer in a portable enclosure.
The Makara shares much of its DNA with the BassBoss Kraken Quad-21-inch Powered Subwoofer, and is engineered to deliver a flat response to 23Hz. The subwoofer achieves a maximum sustained output of 143dB SPL at 1m in a half-space (ground plane) environment, with a peak SPL of 146dB. The 21-inch transducers feature 4.5-inch CCAW voice coils and Neodymium motors.
Each transducer is driven by a discrete amplifier whose combined output has the potential to deliver 5kW to the two drivers. Integrated with the amplification package is a comprehensive DSP that includes extensive proprietary processing devised by designer David Lee. High-pass and low-pass filters, equalisation and limiting ensure smooth response, reliable operation and ready interoperability with all BassBoss loudspeakers and subwoofers.
A waterproof (IP65 rated) Neutrik powerCON True 1 Top connector provides power input, fed from a standard US 3-pin/120V electrical plug (NEMA 5-15). Signal input and pass-through connectors are XLR. LAN connectivity for ControlBass software is via two internally switch-linked EtherCON RJ45 data connectors.
The Makara-Mk3 is built for durability from 18mm marine-grade Birch plywood. The cabinet measures 48-inch x 28-inch x 36-inch, and is finished in black, textured, bonded, high-pressure Polyurea coating, making it suitable for any environment. 35mm pole sockets are provided on all four sides. Four steel bar handles and UHMWPE sliders simplify set-up. The Makara-MK3 sliders interlock with each other, and with the Kraken.
