Funktion-One has released the BR (Bass Reflex) loudspeaker range, targetting applications ‘requiring deep, strong bass at close range’. The system design accommodates higher bass frequencies, allowing use in a wide variety of configurations.

The BR range includes the high-power BR218 (double 18-inch) and BR221 (double 21-inch) large-format enclosures, and the BR115 (single 15-inch) and BR118 (single 18-inch) enclosures. These models supplement Funktion-One’s range of smaller enclosures, including the F81, F101, F1201 and Resolution 1.

The MST (Modular Stadium Technology) used in the new range calls on large-format loudspeaker horns which, due to their size, offer low frequency dispersion control. In acoustically challenging environments, such as arenas and stadia, this allows sound to be directed without unnecessarily exciting the reverberant space. This control combines with Funktion-One’s latest 10-inch cone mid-range device, for large sound reinforcement applications with ultra low distortion and exceptional pattern control.

‘We have achieved a combination of structure and materials, which integrate strength, low weight and weather resistance with outstanding acoustic properties,’ says company founder and system designer, Tony Andrews. ‘This composite technology has opened the door to manufacturing large waveguide developments of Funktion-One’s cone driver loading technique weighing only 60kg.

‘This technology offers unparalleled audio quality and sensitivity from a finely tuned cone driver and waveguide combination and the level of directivity control to be expected from a near two-metre waveguide. The controlled directivity behaviour of the waveguides allows them to be combined at angles varying between 1° and 22.5°, to achieve desired SPL and coverage footprint.’
