Stage Right has announced the Studio 2‑Channel 1073‑Style Microphone Preamp, a vintage‑style microphone, line, and instrument preamplifier based on the preamplifier section found in classic Neve-style 1073 modules from the early 1970s, and claiming ‘a corresponding sound character that is warm, punchy, sweet and musical’.
The 1073 design uses two transistor-based gain stages on the input, bringing the signal level up to -15dBu. A final transformer-coupled output amplifier then brings the signal up to line level. This layout produces the high gain required for music recording. By having multiple class-A gain stages, the 1073 was more efficient than its predecessors, and was able to handle low and high sensitivity mic sources while maintaining a low noise floor.
The signal path of the Stage Right unit uses only discrete components – resistors, capacitors and transistors. The input and output are transformer‑balanced, using two separate transformers, and the channels are fully independent of each other, from the signal input to output.
Key features:
- Two independent channel paths.
- Fully discrete component signal path.
- Hi-Z instrument input for sound modules, electric guitar or bass
- Up to 80dB gain, able to hande passive ribbon mics with quiet sound sources
- Combination XLR/TRS input jack, and separate output XLR and TRS jacks.
