Located in Chiapas, the recently opened Dr Belisario Domínguez Auditorium is a new benchmark venue for Mexico using photovoltaic solar panels to provide all of the energy that the complex requires to operate. Among the systems drawing on this supply is a DAS Audio loudspeaker system.
With Juan García at the helm, Chemtrol México supplied and installed the system – a DAS Audio Convert line array, chosen for versatility and sound quality. The sound team worked with the DAS Audio Sound Project Department and Eva Argandoña on the design and the auditorium acoustic simulation.
A total of eight active Convert 12A line arrays now provide the main PA, augmented by two active Convert 18A subs. The system iss set up to provide stereo sound, with each channel featuring a Convert 18A subwoofer with four Convert 12A units rigged above.
After careful study of the venue’s characteristics, these hangs were angled to provide uniform sound throughout the audience area. Two powered DAS Artec 506As from the DAS Artec Series 500 line support coverage for the front rows of the audience, and four powered Artec 508A systems are rigged under the balcony to ensure sound in the far corners of the auditorium and prevent acoustic shadows. The installation is rounded out with two DAS DSP-2060A digital signal processors to manage and control the system.
The Dr Belisario Domínguez Auditorium is attached to the Autonomous University of Chiapas and has seating for upwards of 2,000 spectators. The opening ceremony for the complex was attended by the leading authorities in the State of Chiapas, including its Governor, as well as various local and university dignitaries. The auditorium’s debut performance was given by mezzo-soprano Cassandra Zoé Velasco, accompanied by pianist and musical director Angel Rodríguez.
