The Iconic was developed specifically to meet the needs of film and audio production control rooms, and was introduced in 1937 by James B Lansing, the founder of JBL. Its two-way configuration of a 15-inch woofer and compression driver/horn high-frequency section established the standard for studio monitor systems, still in use today.
Accepting the award at the recent Namm show, JBL’s Mark Gander said: ‘This is the fifth loudspeaker to be inducted into the TEC Hall of Fame with components designed by Jim Lansing. His loudspeaker design innovations were seminal to virtually all aspects of recorded and reproduced sound, and we at JBL are proud to carry on his traditions and embody his spirit of innovation in our current products.’
The TEC Awards Hall of Fame was created to recognise those individuals, living or deceased, whose careers have best exemplified the spirit of creative and technical excellence in professional audio.
