The arena is typical of the acoustical challenge offered by many sports venues, but made more so because it is an ice hockey stadium and so the pitch itself is ice – and therfore very reflective.
The stadium owners decided they had to improve on the poor performance of the earlier sound system and approached City Light – the Funktion One representative in Slovakia – with a request for a system solution within a very tight budget. City Light consulted with the F1 technical department to arrive at an AX88-based system with additional F118 bass for full-range music reproduction.
In all, 19 AX88 speech-range and ten F118 bass enclosures were installed last Summer with F1 designing and providing all rigging metalwork. According to City Light, the result was an extremely pleased customer and spectators who have subsequently written letters praising the new system. The efficiency, intelligibility and directivity contributed strongly to the success of this installation – qualities have also made the AX88 successful in theatre applications where voice reproduction is essential.
