Founded in 1976, the SAE Institute is the world’s largest, industry-focussed creative media educator with a network across five continents, offering courses in a range of creative media fields. Its Stuttgart location is the latest to incorporate Audient into its teaching, with the installation of an ASP8024 Heritage Edition analogue mixing console.
The desk is primarily used for recording tuition: ‘Signal flow is not hard to understand on this console and it sounds great,’ says Dominik Kammerer from SAE Institute Deutschland, describing the console’s operation. ‘It produces a clear and rich sound and is easy to set up.
‘The DLC – or Dual Layer Control – sits at the heart of the desk, giving a range of DAW control features, including eight bankable faders, transport control, track record enable and plug-in selection/editing, all of which facilitate the session’s navigation.’
The ASP8024-HE arrived at the same time as four Audient iD14 USB audio interfaces, which with the same mic preamplifiers as those used in the console, as well as Burr-Brown AD/DA converters, ADAT input for expandability and Audient’s iD ScrollControl Mode.
‘We’d been without interfaces for three years,’ Kammerer says. ‘Not a single day goes by without at least one of them getting used.’
