The first beatcon hip-hop producers conference in Düsseldorf provided workshops, panels and live performances, allowing producers from the hip-hop scene to share their knowledge, especially the technical aspects. Italian sound specialist RCF supported the event not only as a sponsor but also with equipment – stages, workshops and master classes called on HDL 30-A line array systems, subs and TT MkII modules.

beatconThe closing highlight of each day was a live performance by an artist on the Snipes Stage, with a programme that required the PA able to handle a wide variety of formats, sounds and situations. with Owner of event service provider Tontechnik Kaufmann, Christofer Kaufmann equipped the Snipes Stage with seven HDL 30 modules and two Sub 9007-AS (in cardioid mode) left and right of the stage. Additionally, three Sub 9007-AS boxes were sited at centre front the stage. Two RCF TT 22-MkII boxes served as side fill. The artists on stage used TT 25 SMA monitor wedges.

Because of the event’s concept, with live performances, workshops, discussions and spoken word, the organisers required a PA that delivers perfect results both in terms of music reproduction and speech intelligibility. The RCF HDL 30-A is a compact bi-amped two-way active touring system for medium-to-large events, both in- and outdoors. It features two 10-inch woofers and a 4-inch titanium compression driver. The time coherent waveguide results from in-depth research and design. HDL30-A is the first line array in a composite cabinet with a zero-degree phase and ultra-linear amplitude response.

The built-in 2.2kWclass-D amplifier delivers playback clarity and up to 137dB SPL max. The RCF HDL30 -A features RCF transducers with neodymium magnets. Considering its acoustical power, it has a remarkably low weight for easy handling and flying.

With only workshops taking place, beatcon’s second stage required a smaller PA. Two systems comprising an RCF TT 22 MkII module and a Sub 8003-AS II were sufficient. As a third location, the lounge was the place for master classes, where participants could work in small groups with hip-hop producers tweaking their beats and sounds. The direct contact and feedback to the lecturers was a plus for the participants, achieved using two of RCF’s Evox 8 portable sound systems.
