It wasn’t just the sound of the DVA line array was the deciding factor, but also the speed at which the full system could be assembled. Running the pitch as a competition, Muang Thai Life Assurance asked the two finalists to set up entire system in the auditorium so that there could be an accurate and fair judgement between the two different brands.
When asked to compare the two, a company spokesman described the dBTechnologies’ DVA line array as ‘...displaying superior music audio and speech clarity,’ and was impressed with its ease of installation. The dBTechnologies powered line array system was rigged, patched and deployed in around 30 minutes, whereas the alternative system took more than three hours.
Local distributor, Total Equipments (Thailand), was responsible for the successful presentation of the dBTechnologies gear, which comprises four DVA T4 and two DVA S20 powered subwoofers each side for the 450-capacity auditorium. Winning the contract also led to a further upgrade to the stage monitoring system, which uses dBTechnologies Opera 410D cabinets to match the FOH system.
‘I have only needed to add a small amount of EQ for the room,’ says David Styles, the system engineer. ‘DVA really is the perfect system for this kind of application.’
The house engineer was also struck by the sonic quality of the new system once it was up and running, picking out ‘...its smooth even coverage of the room,’ and the improved ‘...gain before feedback when it comes to using handheld and lavalier wireless microphones for presentations.’
The DVA T4 is one of the most successful of dBTechnologies’s products to date, having sold 15,000 units worldwide, bringing the line array concept within reach of budget-concious users.
