With more than 105 members playing a diverse range of musical instruments, the Indian Territorial Army Band turned to ElectroAcoustic Consultants Advance Acoustic Research for a sound reinforcement system designed to meet its considerable needs. After assessing and comparing options from various manufacturers, Tikendra Singh (Principal Consultant of Advance Acoustic Research) recommended a system based on Tannoy VQ Series.
Following the recommendation, the ITA Band opted for the full-range, point-source Tannoy VQ system – a modular system designed to suit applications where precise directional control, high sonic performance, very high SPL and low distortion are critical. The powerful point-source VQ 60 claims the same clarity, definition and power as a four-element line array system.
The fnal system was supplied by Acoustic Arts and comprises two VQ 60 cabinets, two VS 215HL cabinets and four V12HP monitors. These are powered by two Lab.gruppen fP4000 amplificatiers and one fP2600, using with Biamp DSP for system control. The package also included Yamaha mixing consoles, 42 Sennheiser mics and eight DI boxes.
Developed as an alternative to installng line array systems, the VQ Series claims the benefits of a point source cabinet while overcoming many of the perceived weaknesses. The VQ range has recently benefited from the addition of several developments, and ensures predictable array performance and very accurate system design, from Tannoy’s PSW waveguide.
The Indian Territorial Army Band is now using the system for performances all across India at a range of venues, both indoors and outdoors. It has been used a number of times at India Gate for gatherings of more than 10,000 people.
