Having conducted a survey across 20 UK recording studios, environmental evangelist Julie's Bicycle reports that environmental concerns are 'becoming a business priority'.
The survey is based on returns from completed by 12 companies representing 20 studios across the UK, and indicates that all are recycling waste. Of this, 17 per cent send zero waste to landfill, 67 per cent monitor their energy use, and 50 per cent are actively engaged in a range of sustainability initiatives from using energy saving light bulbs, buying Fairtrade food and cycling to work, to the installation of efficient heating systems and renewable energy sources such as PV panels.
The survey reveals all respondents to be motivated by climate change and sustainability, with the second most powerful motivator being cost savings (67 per cent). Julie's Bicycle says that these facilities believe 'communication of environmental initiatives to be important – one stated that all clients undergo an induction introducing the studio’s policies, and another discloses its environmental reporting on its website'.Having won a prize draw for a consultancy session with Julie's Bicycle, AIR Studios will work with Julie's Bicycle over the coming months to further develop their environmental action plan.
Julie’s Bicycle is looking to assist any studios looking to reduce their environmental impact, and recently launched a new resources section on its website for studios.
