Known for its high-end documentary work including Whitney: Can I Be Me and Andy Murray: Resurfacing, Roundtable Post is an independent postproduction facility in London where it recently expanded into an additional building near its Macklin Street location and took the opportunity to add a Dolby Atmos capable suite in addition to integrating Dante Audio-over-IP routing throughout the building.
Established in 2008, Roundtable quickly gaining a reputation for attention to detail, friendliness and focus on their client’s needs. Now the team works on a wide range of feature documentaries, and delivers them in UHD, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Enabling Roundtable the team to work on Atmos mixes in-house and allowing greater flexibility with audio projects including mixing and VO recording, the new installation was handled by HHB Communications and the postproduction focused sales team at Scrub.
‘We were interested in having the ability to be able to work on theatrical mixes in house,’ says Roundtable MD, Ben Coulson. ‘Previously, we relied on hiring other theatres – this new space gave us the chance to build our own room from the ground up. The team at Scrub provided helpful support with choosing the right equipment for the room to support Dolby Atmos and the Dante Audio-over-IP integration.’
The new suite includes a 7.1.4 Dynaudio monitoring set-up with a Dolby Home Entertainment Rendering Mastering Unite (HE-RMU), a 32-fader Avid Pro Tools S6 console, and MTRX for control room monitoring. In addition to supporting the room upgrades, the Technical Support team at HHB was also responsible for the loudspeaker calibration in the new Dolby Atmos suite.
Alongside the Dolby Atmos suite, Roundtable built a 4k projection Baselight grading suite and a 7.1 premix suite that includes a large voiceover booth two Flame and Avid onlines as well as 11 offlines. Each room uses Dynaudio monitoring for consistency between finishing suites, and has the added flexibility of a comprehensive Dante network allowing for shared resources such as the VO booth.
‘This was our first time with Roundtable Post and it was great to get to work with the team start to finish – from having them in to visit the demo room at Scrub, all the way to the final speaker calibration,’ says HHB CTO, John Johnson. ‘Roundtable has taken an already impressive facility and made it even more so.’
