Constructed for roller skating and skateboarding competitions and training sessions during the recent Hangzhou Asian Games, the Qiantang Roller Skating Center is also home to the Asian Games Skateboarding Park with both having sound systems provided by RCF and installed by the official RCF distributor for China, Zhejiang Chuangda Stage Facilities.
Sitting the bank of the Qiantang River, the Qiantang Roller Skating Center resembles two superimposed Arabic numeral ‘6’ snd is Asia’s largest indoor roller skating venue. The Chinese word for ‘66’ sounds like the word liu liu (smooth or slick), which is consistent with roller skating events. It covers a total area of about 130,000sq-m with its two venues located to the north and south of each other. The project represents an investment of ¥480m (US$60m) and houses a 7m x 200m racing track and a 50m × 25m figure skating track, with audience seating of 1,616.
The audio system of the hall is fully based on RCF speakers. Due to the structure of the stadium, a hanging steel frame was installed for fixed installation of the loudspeaker systems. These comprises 24 HDL 30-A speakers hung in four arrays and one central array looking downward, and six RCF double 18-inch Sub 9006-AS speakers placed at the top of the steel frame for low-end reinforcement. The overall installation is simple and ensures the best intelligibility for both the audience and the athletes in the venue.
The accompanying Asian Games Skateboarding Park covers an area of about 5,661sq-m, and has 862 seats in the grandstand area, divided into two sections – bowl pool and street style.
The bowl pool section includes a circular crater and herringbone ridge, offering a variety of sliding routes. The deepest part of the venue is 3m, surrounded by circular bowl walls with different heights and slopes, and there are a series of complex curves.
The street-style section has stairs, handrail irons, benches and other obstacles and props, and can also serve large-scale international competitions as well as for skateboarding training and education for young people.
Since the skateboarding venue is outdoors, the RCF HL all-weather series was selected as the main system, with eight HL 2290 and 2 HS 2200 loudspeakers forming two line arrays, all with IP55 waterproofing. Sixteen P series P 5228L loudspeakers with the same IP55 rating are installed in the grandstand audience area.
