Billing its new ship as ‘a first-of-its-kind combination of the best of every vacation’, Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas also represents a new partnership between the global cruise company and Allen & Heath’s – with a wide range of A&M technology employed in the the vessel’s eight ‘neighbourhoods’.
Standout features of this partnership are entertainment venues Absolute Zero and Music Hall, which both use Allen & Heath’s S5000 Mixer to help accompany visually impressive and energetic performances of elite ice skaters in the most expansive ice arena at sea. In addition, it keeps the dancefloor alive for rock bands and DJs late into the night at Music Hall.
Atop of Icon of the Seas is the AquaDome neighbourhood, home to the AquaTheater, which offers ‘deck-defying entertainment’ with the cruise line’s marquee aqua shows. Central to this operation is the Allen & Heath C1500 Mixing Surface. High divers, skateboarders, aerialists, slackliners and synchronised swimmers come together in a one-of-a-kind show with perfectly balanced sound. The C1500 also serves lounge spots in The Overlook, making AquaDome an ‘unforgettable destination’.
Allen & Heath’s SQ-5 Mixers are at the heart of other live music and entertainment venues onborad, including Boleros, The Attic, Dueling Pianos and Lou’s Jazz ’n Blues. These mixers deliver the Latin rhythms in Boleros, comedy acts in The Attic, energetic piano battles in Dueling Pianos, and jazz pop throughout the evening at Lou’s Jazz ’n Blues.
Upmarket restaurants and bars, such as Empire Supper Club, Schooner Bar, and 1400 Lobby Bar, are also equiped with Allen & Heath Qu-SB Mixers.
‘When Icon of the Seas was in its genesis, we were fortunate to present an introduction to Allen & Heath’s newest, flagship, 96kHz dLive audio mixing platform to Royal Caribbean,’ says Allen & Heath Sales Manager, Kevin Madden. ‘The high-resolution audio, myriad of configuration possibilities and ease of operation with dLive as well as familiar workflow among all product series presents a unique continuity for production staff that may be tasked with maintaining and operating audio in any variety of venues.’
