On the recommendation of Charles Deenan, Audio Director and Mixer of EA’s Need For Speed: The Run, Soundelux Design Music Group recently purchased four Oxford Limiter Plug-ins for use in mixing the sound for the forthcoming game release.
‘We used the Sonnox Oxford Limiter on the printmaster bus of all the cinematics and non-interactive sequences,’ says Peter Zinda of the Soundelux Design Music Group team. ‘We wanted to achieve a mix that was punchy, aggressive, and visceral, without sacrificing dynamics. There was no other processor that gave us the same life and energy.
‘The Enhance fader makes everything sound huge. Many dynamics processors will start to sound hazy or distorted when you push them hard, but that never happened with the Oxford Limiter. It maintains transients, but brings out all the low level signal that allows players to hear every detail. Crashes and explosions sound massive, but you still hear every piece of debris. Car engines sound larger than life. All that without compromising clarity of dialog and music. The Oxford Limiter has become an essential part of our mixing process, and we will continue to use it on other projects going forward.’
