Following the announcement that the UK’s Plus 4 Audio has taken a Uniline modular line array system from French manufacturer APG, Parisian company Silence! Has added a Uniline system to its inventory.
Both companies are TV studio sound specialists, with Silence! being the leading supplier of A/V equipment and services to the TV and live events market in France.
Until now, Silence! Has been noted for hiring in equipment to suit specific applications – and being prepared to build it if the right solution doesn’t exist – rather than investing in a major inventory of PA rental stock that would then limit the company’s choice of equipment.
‘It’s true that we have limited our stock of PA equipment so that we are under no pressure to supply one brand over another,’ admits Silence! CEO, Gilles Hugo. ‘We supply what is best for the job or event concerned. However, having used the Uniline system to great effect on ‘The Voice’ we started to re-evaluate.’
One of the most complex TV shows currently produced, The Voice has to sound good in the studio as well as on-air, as the candidates are judged on their performance.
‘The Uniline system did a wonderful job for us,’ Hugo repoorts. ‘It’s one of those systems that sounds good straight out of the box. The ergonomics of the system work very well for us – it’s compact, light-weight, easy to handle and easy to fly, which is important everywhere but especially in a TV studio. Also, it offers a clean, neutral yet powerful sound with excellent horizontal dispersion and a superb stereo image. The vertical dispersion is also very easy to control and works well. In other words, Uniline seems to fulfil all of our requirements. In fact, I would go so far as to say that on The Voice we achieved possibly our best results in 30 years of TV work.’
Silence!’s use of the new system is not limited to TV studio shows, however: ‘We are convinced that the modularity and versatility of this system will guarantee and excellent level of profitability as it is capable of handling everything from small indoor shows right up to major outdoor festivals,’ Hugo says. ‘Our first event with Uniline was the M6 Music Live festival in Issy-Les-Moulineaux during June. We had some huge stars including Yannick Noah, Charlie Winston and Nelly Furtado amongst others who played to audiences of up to 25,000 people. It couldn’t be further away from The Voice, but it sounded amazing nonetheless. I’m convinced that we have made the right investment.’
Silence!’s system comprises 12 UL210; six UL210D; six UL115B and six UL218S subs.
