Preparing to embark on their debut arena tour in the UK, Mumford & Sons FOH engineer Chris Pollard has revealed that the band will be using a Midas XL4 and Martin Audio MLA system at front of house, with a DiGiCo SD10 console on monitors.

Mumford & Sons‘The MLA momentum is building and we knew that once Pollard got to hear the system he would go for it,’ says Paul Timmins, General Manager of Capital Sound, who are supplying the MLA. ‘But because of the band’s hectic schedule in Australasia and North America, we had a problem simply getting him in front of it.’

However, Pollard managed to spend some time at London’s The 02 during the Killers’ first show day there. ‘We showed him around the equipment and then he listened to the incredible coverage MLA delivers without the need for the delay hangs that are usually necessary for The O2,’ Timmins reports. ‘He made his decision later that day.’

Capital Sound is supplying a four-man PA crew, with Marty Beath, one of the recently trained MLA technician’s, handling system engineering; Fabrice Quirin, who has worked with the band during the past 18 months for all the European touring, as crew chief; Mark (Magic) Ellis Cope on main PA duties; and Tom Whitbread taking care of stage miking.

Pollard has chosen the Midas XL4 with a raft of outboard, while Joel Gregg will be at the DiGiCo SD10, which is serving Shure PSM900 IEM systems and d&b M2 wedge monitors.

‘We have really high hopes for the audio results on this tour and can’t wait to hear the rig in action,’ Timmins says. ‘We appreciate the loyalty of tour manager Giles Woodhead, Chris and Joel have shown us, and we’ll ensure they get the great service they’re used to during the upcoming run.’

The tour begins with a series of regional theatre warm-ups using Martin Audio’s MLA Compact, with the MLA taking over on arena dates in December.
