A three-day technology workshop and demonstration in Bangkok has seen the Thailand’s first live radio broadcast using the DAB+ standard
Jointly organised by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand (NBTC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the workshop hosted a live field test in and around Bangkok and offered presentations on DAB+ and network planning. The broadcast itself was made from facilities operated by public broadcaster MCOT, and provided first-hand operational experience and an insight into the technology.
‘This workshop is an opportunity for Thailand,’ said Colonel Dr Natee Sukonrat, NBTC Vice Chairman. ‘It will allowthe radio broadcasters and the Thai people to learn about digital radio technologies. The NBTC has planned to deploy digital radio broadcasting next year and is now working with the ITU on a roll-out roadmap.’
The demonstration was supported by expertise from Australia and Europe, where digital radio is already on air.
