Soho’s Deluxe Digital Cinema EMEA has installed a number of TC Electronic TouchMonitors and upgraded the Avid Pro Tools system used in its work preparing more than than 50 per cent of the world’s theatrical release content for distribution around the world.
Specialises in digital and data postproduction and distribution services for the feature film industry, the Digital Cinema Packages the facility provides can require more than 100 versions, in order to address the requirements of 5.1 and 7.1 surround, 3D film, content for the hard of hearing, subtitling for multiple languages among other considerations.
Supplied by HHB Communications, the TC TouchMonitors are being used in Deluxe’s three main theatres and two mastering suites for quality control of theatrical content for feature and trailer release. They are also particularly useful in Deluxe’s 32-speaker Dolby Atmos theatre – one of only two theatres of its kind in Europe.
‘The TC TouchMonitors are very beneficial to our work because they provide level indication during multichannel playback of additional channels that we do not audibly monitor,’ says Deluxe Digital Head of Technical Services, Andy Scade. ‘The meters are very intuitive and straightforward to use, yet still offer a comprehensive feature set, which is a rare combination. It is a phenomenal product that gives us so much more flexibility.’
Available in 7-inch or 9-inch versions, TC TouchMonitors are fully-featured stereo and multichannel loudness and true-peak level meters that provide a comprehensive set of I/O options, including balanced analogue I/O, AES/EBU digital, digital and analogue I/O. An SDI 3G version is also available. A variety of software options are also provided, including RTA Analyser, SSA Surround Analyser, Radar Display, RTW Premium PPM and Multichannel Routing Module.
HHB also helped Deluxe Digital update its Pro Tools infrastructure by providing sales and technical support for the upgrade to Pro Tools 10 with the Complete Production Tool Kit and an HD Native System.
‘It can be very difficult to upgrade systems and incorporate new technology into an existing infrastructure,’ Scade says. ‘HHB built and configured the new Pro Tools system at their facilities so they could be installed without interrupting our infrastructure and we were up and running in the same day. That is the service that we want and that is why we have been very happy with HHB.’
