Belgium’s Galaxy Studios hosted a showcase performance and recording of a live band using Focusrite’s RedNet modular, high quality audio networking system.
Operating over the Dante digital audio network, the system comprised RedNet 1, 2, and 3 and two RedNet 4 units in the live room, with a RedNet 5 in the control room – all connected via the studio’s Ethernet network. A full live band – keys, synth, guitar, bass guitar, drums and pads – performed in the live room, with the RedNet 4s receiving the microphone inputs and the RedNet 1 the line inputs (RedNet 1 was also used to output headphone mixes back to the performers).
Permanently installed Cat6 studio routed the audio signals into the control room and into a switch, where the RedNet 5 bridged the Dante streams from RedNet to ProTools|HD, alongside 3 Digidesign 192 I/O interfaces (all synced to the house clock).
RedNet Control software interface was set up on a Mac Pro to control the routing and configuring of the RedNet interfaces and then, as the band played, to control the gain of the preamps, reference level, clock source, master clock and sample rate.
‘The RedNet-system is the perfect plug-and-play solution for today’s versatile audio facilities,’ Galaxy Studios engineer Jan Castelein commented.
