Fifteen years in the making, Powersoft now has 600m watts of its professional audio power amplification in use around the world.
‘We recently had a count, and realised that we were getting close to the 600m watts mark,’ explains Powersoft Audio BU Director, Luca Giorgi. ‘Nearly 600 million, but not quite – we were still missing about 3m watts, and it became our goal to achieve this target before the end of August’
‘To help reach this landmark figure, we needed to come up with an effective promotion, so we created the 600millionreason campaign,’ says Francesco Fanicchi, Powersoft Marketing & Communication Manager ‘Announcing the promotion through all of our communication channels, we invited visitors to register on a dedicated website and to join our cause.’
The campaign been successful beyond expectations, enabling Powersoft to reached its goal after just three weeks, and selling several hundred of the powerful K10 and K20 amplifiers in a matter of days.
While the idea of 600m watts invites criticism of pollution and of huge energy bills, Powersoft is eager to take another approach – how much energy has been saved? Properly implemented, switch-mode technology in power amplification is intrinsically efficient, and Powersoft has long championed efficient designs that minimise energy consumption.
‘If we compare our top-level touring amplifiers with those of our competitors using more traditional technology, the benefits quickly add up,’ Giorgi says.
As a practical example: consider two systems using 600MW of audio power (at full power) for one hour – the first uses Powersoft PWM, switch-mode amplifiers, the second uses traditional linear amplifiers. With around 85-to-90 per cent efficiency, the power required to run the Powersoft amps produces in the region of 24 tonnes (or megagrams) of CO2 emissions less than the linear amps. This means that on average K20 Powersoft amplifier can save about 0.5kg /hour of CO2 (25 per cent of full output power at 4Ω)
Ecology-efficient technologies are increasingly important, and integrating these technologies into pro audio has long been part of Powersoft’s philosophy – both to save customers money and as a contribution for preserving the environment.
Even though the original target has been reached, the 600millionreasons campaign will continue as planned until the end of August.
