These will address the different disciplines involved and will feature invited representatives from the PRS, PPL, MPA, AIM, BPI, BASCA and Musicians Union, along with legal advisers and representatives of the ancillary industries involved such as aggregators, distributors, publicists and pluggers. The events will also look into the advent of the ‘360 degree deal’ and how it impacts on the activities of the DIY company.
‘The response from all the participating organisations has been encouraging,’ says MPG Chairman, Steve Levine. ‘We can all see how co-operation between all the elements of the music industry will be vital in its continued success, and that success can only be sustained if we adapt to the new digital economy.’
The first informal seminar, moderated by MPG director and producer Tommy D, takes place on 11 November at London’s Metropolis Studios, and is designed to find out what people want to know about the process of DIY. It will include guest speakers from AIM, The Association of Independent Music, The Musicians Union, BASCA, and some of the MPG’s own members who have gone down the DIY route themselves. Future events will focus on specific areas of setting up a record company leading up to a cross-organisational event enabling those attending to meet with different members of organisations with similar goals but from a varied stand point.
