Jon Thornton was looking at the new SSL console that sits lower and is shallower than the Amek desk it recently replaced at Liverpool’s Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts (LIPA), raising issues with the monitoring. ‘An unanticipated bonus was just how much better our flush-mounted Boxer monitors sounded as a result,' he says. 'But when we decided to add some additional close-field monitoring, we realised that their positioning was seriously compromising the sound of the main monitors. What we needed was a way of lifting the new close-fields in and out of position.’
The solution took the form of Towersonic’s TS-1 powered speakers, suppplied by professional audio specialists KMR Audio.
‘I’d come across the Towersonic range before, and knew that as traditional monitor stands they were more than up to the job,’ Thornton explains. ‘The powered stands though, were new to me – but seemed to be just what was needed. So we took a chance and ordered a pair, and they work fantastically. Installation was a breeze, and importantly the lift mechanism in no way compromises the rigidity and performance of the stands themselves. They are near silent in operation too.’
The Towersonic TS-1 POW stand enables optimised 3D-space positioning, and the standard dimensions can be paired with a wide range of speakers from close-fields to large mains.
‘The TS-1 stands are remote controllable, motorised, fully height adjustable studio grade speaker stands,’ adds KMR Sales Manager, Stefan Pope. ‘Undoubtedly the ultimate in audio monitoring stands and an innovative design from a British company. We’re proud to be their exclusive suppliers.’
The new SSL joins two new Audient ASP8024 mixing consoles that have replaced earlier well-used ASP8024s, as part of the facility's ongoing development.
