Discovery Networks Denmark has completed a major refurbishment of its studios, control rooms and equipment to meet the requirements for larger and more demanding sports productions.
Taking the opportunity to rebuild the rooms as well as replacing equipment as part of the project, the Copenhagen studios now house a 42-fader Studer Vista 5 M3 and a hybrid video router that is connected via Madi to the audio infrastructure as well as the intercom system. ‘The decision to go with Studer was easy,’ explains Discovery Technical Manager Michael Lind. ‘We saw the advantages of the Vistonics graphical user interface, which provides a fast and easy-to-understand surface for our sound engineers. We need a fast learning curve, as most of our sound engineers are hired as freelancers. Therefore the console also gives us peace of mind as this has become the de facto standard in Denmark for these types of environments.
After initial meetings with Studer’s Danish distributor, Danmon Group, a layout of the console was chosen and it turned out to be very straightforward as all connections are purely via Madi. Two links attach the Studer SCore Live to the video hybrid router and two more are connected to a Studer Compact Stagebox.
‘With 32 mic/line inputs and 16 line outputs, the Compact Stageboxes are more than adequate for our needs in the two studios,’ says technician Karsten Nielsen. ‘Most of our audio connections are done via the hybrid router, so the Stageboxes in the studios are widely used for special needs including the wireless microphones. Should extra in/outputs be needed we still have the opportunity to populate the two modular D21m slots in each Stagebox with the right type of interfaces.’
The Vista 5 Studer now been in full service for six months and has fulfilled all the expectations Discovery Networks Denmark had for the console.
