Indonesia’s state broadcaster TVRI has completed a pilot project designed to improve the audio production quality in the performance auditorium at its Jakarta headquarters – by going fully digital.
TVRI operates 22 regional stations and has more than 6,800 employees, 2,000 of whom are based in Jakarta. Along with government digital television, TVRI has four channels that are currently broadcast in DVB-T. TVRI 1 (on-air identity as TVRI Nasional) provides national coverage, TVRI 2 will be the regional network of regional TVRI broadcasters (currently broadcasts the Jakarta regional station), TVRI 3 with programmes focused on culture and TVRI 4 with sports.
After careful consideration, TVRI Jakarta selected Lawo audio equipment for its recent project, including two mc²56 MKII broadcast and production mixing consoles. The desks have been installed in both the control room and the auditorium FOH, and have identical configurations – each is equipped with 48 faders and a stagebox with 48 mic/line inputs, eight line-level inputs and 16 line-level outputs.
As this was the broadcaster’s first use of digital audio, most of the operators were initially apprehensive about the project. However, the simple set-up and intuitive operation, as well as greater efficiency and flexibility of workflow, immediately won them over. ‘With the flexibility and the renowned stability and quality of our mixers, it gives TVRI full confidence in the new workflows with Lawo equipment,’ says Tan Boon Siong, Lawo’s International Sales & Project Manager who supervised the project. ‘We are confident that the partnership will grow and develop even further in the coming years.’
