KEXP 90.3 FM Radio recently broke ground on a new US$15m broadcast studio complex in Seattle. Guests at the event included Pearl Jam lead guitarist, Mike McCready and King County Executive, Dow Constantine – as well as more than 700 local fans.
A staple of Seattle’s music scene for more than 40 years, KEXP will soon occupy an expansive piece of real estate in Seattle Center’s Northwest Rooms. Its Walters-Storyk Design Group-WSDG-designed studios will feature an audio/video integration based on a Wheatstone Audio for Radio & TV System, and will include a 400-ft2 on-air studio, 1,090-ft2 live room, two production rooms, two audio and DJ booths, two video edit rooms, a video control room two DJ iso rooms, a Green Room, production/mastering, open office space, a library and conference rooms. Additionally, a 4,500-ft2 reception area/audience space with a stage for live performances will sit adjacent to a record/retail store and café.
Funds for the new complex were raised by an on-air campaign, and foundation, corporate, local entrepreneur and local government support. The project is expected to be complete by late 2015 or early 2016: ‘KEXP has established an outstanding history over its past 40-plus years as leading broadcasters, and we are extremely proud to be playing a role in its future,’ says WSDG Co-Principal/Director of New Business Development, Sergio Molho.
