Staged at London’s Conway Hall, Rhinegold Live is a series free recitals designed to bring a unique and informal take to the classical recital experience. To date, artists have included Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, The Allegri Quartet, Nicholas McCarthy, Andrew Litton, Mary Bevan and Richard Peirson, and, most recently, Carolyn Sampson. AKG and UK distributor Sound Technology are jointly sponsoring the events with an AKG C414 mic provided for recording.
Artists perform in-the-round, offering an up-close and personal experience for both audience and themselves. Each 50-minute recital is followed by an informal Q&A, with the artist and a Rhinegold editor. Artists are encouraged to select programmes that are significant mean to them. Artists are hand-selected by the editors of Classical Music, International Piano and Opera Now magazines.
‘The C414 is one of the all-time classic microphones, and we initially approached AKG as Julian Lloyd Webber was very keen to use this specific model when he performed at the launch night,’ says Louise Greener, Event Producer, Rhinegold Live. ‘The C414 is such a versatile microphone – we’ve used it with fantastic results across a variety of instruments and musical styles, from jazz and classical piano, to German Lieder and French art song and string quartet. Our artists are always thrilled with the audio quality.’
The next Rhinegold LIVE event features Jennifer Pike. Jennifer Pike was the youngest ever winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2002. Since then, she has performed extensively as a soloist with major orchestras worldwide, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Symphony.
