With a Linear 5 Big Venue Pack recently used to provide sound for a European Union congress of 200 VIPs in Dar es Salaam, and the subsequent purchase of a Linear 5 Rock Pack by theTanzanian Government, East Coast Africa Music (ECAM) reports increasing uptake of HK Audio loudspeaker systems in Africa.
Algam MD Jean-Luc Dubois set up ECAM in 2013 ‘to improve the pro audio situation in the country’. ‘The pro audio market in Tanzania, like in many African countries, is complicated,’ he says. ‘There are only a few points of sale, and they only supply extremely cheap products made in the Far East. This results in installations of generally poor quality.
‘I created ECAM – which has just one supplier, Algam – with the hope of introducing high-quality European products into the African pro audio sector. Even though budgets are much smaller in the African market, we want to make the people aware of the elevated European standards.
‘We provided the sound for the renowned Nyama Choma festival, and we also kitted out a conference room at the president’s palace with an HK Audio system,’ he adds. ‘We have also installed systems at a number of restaurants and hotels across the country, as well as providing many smaller bars with discreet Lucas Nano set-ups.’
