Recently completed, the 500-capacity Siksa-dong Catholic Church in Korea features an HK Audio Elements loudspeaker system as the key to its sound reinforcement.
Located in Goyang, northwest of Seoul, the three-storey church took five years to complete and places equal value on its architecture and interior design. For sound reinforcement, it required a powerful yet inconspicuous loudspeaker system that would not compromise the design of its sanctuary.
Calling in Daikyung Prosound Seocho to design the system and perform the installation, the church has been equipped with an Elements system comprising two E435 A Install Kit units, six standard E435s, two E110 Sub As and two E110 Subs for the main system, with additonal E435 A Install kits and E435s for subs. In addition, two E435 A Install Kit units and two E435s serve as a monitor system for the church’s choir.
‘The most important consideration was finding an audio system that would sound great without disrupting the splendid interior of the church,’ says Daikyung Prosound Seocho CEO, Jin-wook Kim. ‘Elements fulfilled our requirements completely – the mid/high columns works in perfect harmony with the church’s interior, and worshippers anywhere in the church can be assured of remarkably well-defined speech.’
There was also the requirement for front fill speaker coverage for the front two rows of seats, as well as monitor speakers for the priest on stage. Normally, these would be set up in front of the stage, but such an arrangement here would have disrupted onstage activities and detracted from the church’s interior. To solve this problem, Sama Prosound analysed the room acoustic and installed the speakers on the rear wall of the stage. Appropriate delay settings align the front rows with the speaker’s voice on stage.
The installation has impressed both church staff and worshippers with the clarity of its speech reproduction and low aesthetic impact on the room.
