Working with sister company Rhino Sound, South Korea distributor DansanSR has concluded a tour to mark the 20th anniversary of local dancing and singing group, Cool. Starting out in Seoul at the Kwanggu Kimdaejung Convention Hall, the tour took in ten shows across Korea and concluded back in the city.
‘Cool are a very well known Korean group from the 1990s,’ says Rhino Sound systems engineer, Gwon Seung Cheoul, who oversaw the sound set-up. ‘They have consistently won awards over the past two decades, and have a huge following across Korea. They are true icons, so we were first of all very pleased to be a part of this anniversary showcase.’
At front of house was an Avid Venue Profile 4DSP mixing console with an Avid SC48 for mixing monitors. On stage, the band used 12 channels of Shure UR4D wireless mics. For wireless IEM, they used eight channels of Sennheiser EW300 G3.
The loudspeaker set up for the tour was straightforward – 16 EAW Anya and eight EAW SB2001 subs, with four EAW KF730 cabinets. These were driven by 12 Powersoft K10 DSPs and eight K3s at most of the venues. A total of 32 Powersoft amps were used. For the monitors, eight Powersoft K2 DSP and four K10s were used to power EAW MW12s and MW15s. ‘With the EAW Anya, it was a quick and easy set up, and using Powersoft amps certainly enabled us to deliver powerful and clean sound throughout.
‘Cool’s performance style was diverse and varied, which required dynamic sound and high dynamic range from the amps,’ Gwon Seung Cheoul says. ‘With Powersoft, we achieved just that. We introduced the Powersoft X series for the last show, employing two X8s. We had 16 channels for the monitors and it was amazing.’
Rhino Sound managed the tour with a five-man crew that travelled to Busan, Seoul, Daegu, Iisan, Bucheon, Jeonju, Ulsan, Daejeon and Gwangju.
