After equipping its Aalto Theatre with a Salzbrenner Stagetec Mediagroup audio system in late 2014, the TBE Gemeinnützige Theater (Community Theatre) Baugesellschaft in Essen looked again to the Mediagroup to equip its Grillo Theatre with a custom audio system during the 2015 summer break.

The Grillo Theatre had been using Stage Tec Cantus consoles and first-generation Nexus Base Devices for many years, prompting its management to commission a comprehensive update of the audio system. Mediagroup Project Manager Detlef Werner conducted a thorough analysis of the theatre’s needs and developed a custom concept for the new installation.

This included an Aurus Platinum mixing console from Mediagroup member Stage Tec, a Nexus router and a custom height-adjustable mount for the console, created by the systems integrator’s own manufacturing department in Buttenheim. The Grillo Theatre will use its new direct-access console both in the audio control room and in the auditorium. The Nexus system is based on a Nexus Star router core and two Nexus Base Devices – one fixed, the other mobile – to ensure optimal communication between the artists and the audio engineers.

Before being shipped to Essen, the system was thoroughly tested in Stage Tec’s premises in Berlin, where the integrator team carried out the necessary groundwork for the installation of the new console and Base Devices, including preparing the required cabling, racks and junction boxes.

Speed was of the essence, since the team had to install the new system during the summer break in performances. Just days after the work was completed, the theatre was up and running again, resuming rehearsals and performances using the new audio system.
