Soho’s Platform Post Production has been  equippedwith a 24-fader Avid S6 M10 control surface by HHB’s Scrub division for its work on comedy, drama, factual, children’s and short-form post, as well as sound design. Using Avid’s Isis shared storage enables the facility to accommodate bookings, matching rooms to projects.

Platform Post Production‘It was extremely important to have a versatile console that would be familiar to all staff and freelancers, and work seamlessly within a Pro Tools environment,’ says Senior Dubbing Mixer Ben Hood.

Scrub’s Technical Sales Team collaborated with Platform Post Production to replace its Avid D-Command control surface with the S6. ‘We had a very tight window of one day, right in the middle of a series,’ Hood explains. ‘In the past, this would have made me nervous, and I would have insisted on more time, but was reassured by Ben [Scully, Head of Scrub Sales] and the Scrub team. We have a very successful history with Scrub and, as ever, their knowledge of our business, input and advice, coupled with hands-on demos of the S6, were invaluable in helping us choose a system to suit us.’

‘With experience of installing more 50 consoles, we were fully confident that the install could be done in a day,’ Scully says. ‘Platform Post Production is finding that the Avid S6 gives a new level of control over Pro Tools sessions.’

Hood is also benefiting from the features offered in S6 v2.0 software: ‘I’m finding spill zones to be invaluable,’ he reports. ‘Combined with layouts and the ability to quickly attention tracks, the S6 allows me to easily navigate sessions and focus on my mix.

‘For a facility, one of the attractive selling points of the S6’s modular design is that, should the unthinkable happen and the console ever develop a fault, we can swap the offending module out in minutes. Watching one being installed and seeing just how quickly modules can be moved and swapped was eye-opening. I can’t think of any other comparable console.’
