Located in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, Pohang is best known for its steel-making industry. It also boasts a number of old and important churches, including the Pohang First Presbyterian. The church is more than 110 years old, and moved to its current building in 2007. To mark its anniversary, the venue refurbished its sound system.
Measuring 37m by 30m, the main sanctuary seats 2,500. Local distributor Avix chose a Next-proaudio sound system to provide high SPLs and good speech intelligibility throughout the venue.
Ten Next LA12 line array speakers in an ivory finish have now been installed, with four LAs218 subwoofers for the main hang on each hang left and right of the stage. Four LAs218 are flown behind LA12 cabinets, with four Next X12 full-range speakers used as front and choir fill, and eight X8x for the under balcony and X10s for upper balcony. Four Next LAm112s are placed as monitor speakers. Five Next MQ10000 amplifiers (low and mid frequencies) and five Next MA2300 amplifiers (HF) power the main speakers, with four MD14000 amplifiers were for subwoofers. These operate in conjunction with four Next DP260s and a DP240 DSP processor. The upper and under balcony systems use two MA2300 and two MA3200 amplifiers, with one MQ10000 for monitoring.
For the installation and tuning, Next-proaudio CEO and R&D Manager Antonio Correia flew from Portugal with sound engineer Tiago Correia. According to Correia, ‘The system serves perfectly for the worship service. It performs great at any level, and is consistent even as the level is pushed.’
