Operating several service cinemas in the centre and south of the Netherlands, Wijchen-based RSB Cinemas is a pioneer in the concept of service cinema. For the three screens in the newly built Cinema Roma Wijchen, RSB Cinemas chose speaker systems from Alcons.

Cinema Roma‘The highest possible quality is pursued in every area,’ says branch manager, Koen Brits, of the new complex, where the décor stylish décor and the cinema-going experience is made intense by the size of the screens.

Working with RSB colleague Joop Hamers and Edwin de Winter from Alcons dealer Dcinex, RSB Cinemas MD Han Wolf did extensive research on the various options for the rooms in Cinema Roma. Comparing different sound systems, he opted for Alcons.

In two of the Cinema Roma rooms, bi-amped CR3 systems are used for the front channels with the CB181sl ultra-shallow (10.8-in/275mm) single 18-inch subwoofer, and coaxial 8-inch CCS8 for surround. The three-way CR3 features double 15-inch vented woofers, two 6.5-inch mid-speakers and two RBN401 4-inch pro-ribbon drivers (1.6kW total peak power).

The third room uses the passive CR2 for the LCR channels and CB181sl sub, and CCS8 for surround.. The three-way CR2 features a single low-impedance 15-inch vented woofer, two 8-inch mids and one RBN601, 6-inch pro-ribbon driver.

All of the systems are powered and controlled by the Alcons Sentinel3 dedicated four-channel amplified loudspeaker controller, which provides protection and optimisation.

‘The great strength of Alcons with this set-up is the low distortion,’ Wolf reports. ‘In the past, we received complaints about the sound being too loud. In practice, such criticism actually means the sound distorts. We then turned the processor level down, but that is not the right solution. Now with Alcons, we play at a higher sound level and even get compliments on the sound quality.’
