As well as securing its first partner in the Czech Republic in Sono Recording Studios, Miloco has added Grand Cru Studio to its books – the floating studio built by Pete Townshend.
Permanently moored at St Katherine Docks in London – with views of Tower Bridge and Southbank – Grand Cru is a 100-year-old, 110-ft converted Dutch barge, now home to a floating studio based around a 48-channel SSL AWS 948 hybrid mixing console, Avid Pro Tools HD3 and Pro Tools 10 HD DAW systems, and Genelec 8030A (surround) and Focal SM9 monitoring. In addition, there is a Studer A827 8-Track 1-inch machine, Ampex ATR-102 and iZ Radar recording system. Extensive outboard is accompanied by a wealth of mics and instruments.
Designed by Eddie Veale with custom spaced wooden slatting, angled wall panels, and handmade panels to create a controlled and comfortable sound, the boat was converted by Townshend in the 1970s, becoming a commercial venture in 1981, and spent most of its life moored in Twickenham before moving to central London in 2009. Since then, it has undergone various upgrades, making it a high-end, well-equipped, and centrally-located facility.
It offers live and control rooms, alongside a separate machine room and its own galley.
According to Miloco, the wooden-clad walls and flood of natural daylight makes Grand Cru an inviting space for clients to relax and write or record’.
