Carrying an Allen & Heath dLive S Class digital mixing system comprising a dLive S5000 Surface and DM48 MixRack, Belgian sound engineer, Jan De Rycke, has completed the second leg of the In the Shadow of Toon Hermans tour.

Jan De RyckeThis covered 34 cities in Belgium and The Netherlands, marking the centenary of the birth of Dutch comedian, singer and writer, Toon Hermans. The tour saw his friend and manager, Herman Van Hove, collaborate with singer, Lissa Meyvis.

‘dLive sounds great and has a huge amount of processing power, flexibility and useful plug-ins,’ De Rycke reports. ‘Details like the selectable and steep HPF – the most underestimated parameter on any sound desk – and the gain reduction spectrograph, show Allen & Heath has got it right. Another benefit for me is full redundancy throughout the system – which is essential in high-end live sound.

‘Working on dLive is fast and the touchscreens are very responsive but at the same time it offers enough buttons, faders and rotaries so you are not forced into an “ipad-touch-style” of mixing,’ he adds. ‘If you want to change EQ on the screen, it’s there. But personally, I prefer the 12 dedicated EQ buttons, just like when I started out 17 years ago. Running at 96kHz with 0.7ms latency while being bus aligned at the same time is another strong point. And then there’s the expandability with five 128-channel slots, tie lines, IP controllers and ME1s – dLive is amazing.’

The dLive system was supplied by local Allen & Heath distributor, XLR.
