American heavy metal group Manowar put in a typically physical set for the international Gods of Metal festival at the Arena Concerti fairgrounds in Milan.
Holding the Guinness World Record for the loudest performance – and having broken their own record twice – the volume of equipment that Manowar needs for the ‘loud and bombastic’ sound that the band’s Army of Immortals fans have come to expect is immense.
Although this was Manowar’s fourth appearance at the event, the concert marked the American band’s return to Italy after a ten-year absence. And to make their point, the world’s loudest band used a DAS Aero Series 2 – exclusively. Soundart technicians held nothing back for Manowar’s performance bringing out 32 large-format DAS Aero 50 line arrays for the event. Bringing the sound for the world’s loudest band poses serious challenges, and the Soundart team put together a DAS system that met the band’s distinct need for power, clarity, and versatility.
The three-way systems were flown in a typical LR configuration, 16 modules on each side of the stage at a height of 10m, guaranteeing sound coverage for the entire audience. The necessary bass support was supplied by 36 DAS LX-218CA powered subwoofers.
These systems were also deployed in Manowar’s standard sound set-up, an LR configuration of 18 units each ground-stacked on either side of the stage.
The return of band frontrunner Joey DeMaio and his boys to Italy, where the group has a huge following, resulted in a packed house at theArena Concerti. Opening act HolyHell kicked off the concert, followed by an unforgettable performance by Manowar; the band played hits from recent albums as well as some classics in the band’s same heavy metal and power metal style that has defined Manowar since its debut in 1979.
Marking its 15th anniversary, this year’s festival also boasted Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crüe and Slash.
