KMR Audio has secured exclusive supply rights for Coil Audio products in Europe.
Hand built and tested in the US, Coil Audio manufactures a range of classic two-stage mic/line preamplifier designs made popular by Telefunken, Langevin, Collins, Gates and RCA. The preamps are available in a multichannel modular format, or as single channel 2U-high rack units.
There are currently two preamplifier designs in the range in addition to a separate 48V phantom PSU.
The CA-286 preamp module is a tribute to the 1950s/60s European two-stage amplifier made popular by Telefunken, Langevin, Collins and Gates. The module uses proprietary Coil Audio transformers, high-quality capacitors, resistors, and NOS octal valves and is powered by Coil’s PS6 Rack Tray/Power Supply.
The CA-286S preamplifier is a standalone single channel 2U-high version of the CA-286 module but with onboard power and a more streamlined control layout. It boasts the same European style circuit, tubes, transformers, and high-end components as its PS6 module sibling.
The CA-70 preamplifier module pays homage to the American two-stage circuit invented by Western Electric in 1913 and manufactured by multiple companies from the 1930s through the 1950s – most notably RCA, Gates and Langevin. This old octal tube circuit has a thick tone and is what many consider to be the quintessential ‘old tube preamp’ sound.

True to the original two-stage circuits, the CA-286 and CA-70 do not have phantom power provision – the CP-448 supplies four channels of high-quality 48V power for vintage and modern condenser microphones. The PS6 Rack Tray/PSU is comprised of a 7U-high 19-inch rack tray and separate 2U-high power supply and supplies power for up to six CA series preamp modules. The ‘soft-start’/standby feature allows users to switch the Filament and B+ voltages on and off separately.
