Philippine radio station trades FM for Facebook

Adding its weight to online-only radio broadcasting, Philippine FM radio station RJ UR 105.9 will soon abandon its FM slot in favour of a Facebook page.

‘I think we’re the first radio station in the Philippines to broadcast direct from Facebook,’ says station owner Ramon Jacinto II.

The station has been running since 2007, playing a mix of classic, modern and Pinoy (Philippine) rock, and will take a name change to reflect its new status – UR Faceradio.

Currently conducting test broadcasts, its Facebook page will allow listeners to see its DJ at work as well as listen to them.

UR Faceradio launches on 28 May, with six simultaneous concerts being streamed live to air.
