Bringing a new highlight to the nightlife is Cyprus, the glittering Little Buddha bar in the island capital of Nicosia is one of the stars of a list of recent installations by Renkus-Heinz distributor S&V MegaSound.

With two club installations, a cathedral and a conference center completed and more in progress, the company is having ‘a hectic time’, according to owner Stelios Petrides.

Music is central to the Buddha Bar experience, and features Latin/oriental lounge beats that gradually move into more upbeat house tunes as the evening progresses. With sound quality central to its enjoyment, S&V MegaSound was called on to design a system capable of delivering exceptional fidelity and precise directional control – and to perform reliably night after night.

The system installed comprises 16 TRX81 two-way, full-range loudspeakers and four PNX112 subwoofers, powered by MC2 T1000 and T20000 amplifiers. Audio routing is handled by a Symmetrix Zone Mix 760 digital zone mixer with ARC2i remote control panels. S&V MegaSound also supplied the DJ set-up of Pioneer CD decks and mixer and an American DJ MP3 player for background music playout.

The bar is laid out as one large space that is divided into two different areas, requiring zoning of the sound system. ‘We tried out various scenarios in pre-testing and programmed a range of different presets for background music for the restaurant, and different settings for the DJ in the lounge bar, where the ambience called for more subwoofers and more power overall.’ says Petrides.

The bar’s plush décor and acoustically treated ceiling were good news: ‘There’s really no reverberation at all,’ Petrides says.

The system is designed to project sound away from the one large glass wall that could otherwise have created reflection problems. ‘It was one of our biggest projects of the last year and we have a very satisfied customer who’s very happy with the results,’ Petrides adds.
