German developer ALC NetworX has released the first draft spec for its Ravenna technology for real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments.
The public release of the Ravenna Specification Draft marks another milestone on Ravenna’s way towards an open-technology, licensing-free solution.
The document explains the fundamental operating principles of the Ravenna technology, and specifies protocols and data formats employed. Targeting manufacturers and system integrators, the document provides information on technological requirements and compliance guidelines. Developers will gain a good understanding on what is required to implement Ravenna into products or system environments.
Aimed at the professional broadcast market, Ravenna can also be used in other pro audio markets, including live sound, installed sound and recording. Possible fields of application include (but are not limited to) in-house signal distribution in broadcasting houses, theatres, concert halls and other fixed installations, flexible set-ups at venues and live events, OB van support, inter-facility links across WAN connections, and in production and recording applications.
