Set on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka in the city of Galle, the luxurious Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel recently called on Digital Ear, regional distributor for Void Acoustics, to install a world-class sound system to complement its hotel’s idyllic beachfront setting.

Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel Specialising in high-end audio and luxury lifestyle products, the Digital Ear team specified and installed an audio system that was required to be both eye-catching and unobtrusive, as well as being able to withstand the demands of an outdoor salty environment.

Meeting all these requirements, is Void Acoustics’ Cyclone 8 loudspeaker, with its UV resilient cellulose finish and IP-55 rating. Complementing the Cyclone 8, Indigo 6S loudspeakers with custom colour finish are also part of the installation.

Power is provided by Bias D1 energy-saving amplifiers. The combination of these components provides the sonic quality and demanding brief for aesthetics and durability.

A further important aspect of the installation was the ability to colour-match the loudspeakers to the hotel’s interior. ‘This enabled us to seamlessly blend the speakers into the décor of the hotel, something which provides a wow factor for our client and their guests,’ explains Digital Ear MD, Haren Perera. ‘Moreover, the IP-55 rating of Void’s Cyclone fixtures ensures they are corrosion-proof and ideal for the open-air poolside area, where they are also installed in the Coat of Arms bar.

Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel ‘We also needed to prevent sound leakage from the poolside and pizza bar to the guest rooms,’ he continues. ‘As such, we placed the speakers to maintain a constant sound pressure level (SPL) across the venue, ensuring even distribution of sound. Having a good SPL level means the system is loud enough to be enjoyed by guests in the immediate vicinity, without causing a disturbance to the guest rooms.’

The successful deployment of the Void Acoustics system has enabled the hotel to expand its entertainment offerings, including pool parties and larger DJ sets, none of which was possible before.

‘This marks the first time we have had a Void Acoustics system installed in one of our properties within the Jetwing Hotels Group and we really couldn’t be more delighted with the result. Void Acoustics ticks many of the boxes – colour customisation, sonic perfection and weatherproof capability. We will certainly be considering more Void Acoustics installations in some of our other Jetwing properties in the future,’ says Dmitri Cooray, Deputy MD of Jetwing Hotels.
