China Central Television (CCTV) is to use its broadcast rights to the London Olympics to test 3D TV broadcasts. The tests are scheduled for late second quarter and third quarter of 2012.
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has called for ten 3D TV stations to be launched during China’s 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015).
According to a report from the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (CECC), more than 80 per cent of Chinese consumers are able to differentiate between 3D television brands currently on the market. The CECC estimates 5m 3D televisions will be sold by the end of 2011.
China Market Monitor Co Ltd consulting reckons that 3D televisions will hold 12-15 per cent of the share in the panel television sector by the end of 2011. Displaybank, a consulting firm that specialises in the TV display industry, estimates that more than 86 percent of plasma TVs will support 3D technology by the end of 2013.
Early moves are being made by LG and Samsung to bring their 3D technology to China.
