Being called ‘a natural extension to the FX Copyroom’, UK-based FX Rentals has added FX Mastering to its list of audio services.
FX Mastering is ‘a flexible service that allows clients to choose their degree of direct involvement with the audio process’. This ranges from a website-based upload facility to attended sessions. ‘We have a wide range of clients that use FX’s services, from the pro musician, engineer and producer, through gigging artists or bands, to music hobbyists,’ Mastering Manager, Richard Whittaker explains. ‘It was apparent that we needed to offer a mastering service that satisfied all of our clients.
‘Saying that, we’ve had a fantastic response from the “pro” guys and have already worked on material by The Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John, Cameron Mackintosh, Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath.’
Based around the Pyramix V.7 Mastering Workstation, the FX Mastering suite is equipped with Prism XR digital convertors, TC Electronics M6000 and a selection of Maselec, Manley, SSL and Cranesong analogue processing. ATR 102/104 and Studer A80 handle reel-to-reel tapes and Avid Pro Tools, Logic Audio, Sony PCM1630, PCMF1/PCM7030 and Alesis Masterlink are used for digital playback. PMC IB1S-A loudspeakers are used for reference monitoring.
‘FX Mastering continues to be my studio of choice and has provided a fantastic environment for reworking some of The Who’s classic albums,’ says Bob Pridden, producer/sound engineer for The Who.
FX Mastering is part of the FX Copyroom which supplies audio duplication, transfer, mixing & restoration facilities.
