The main auditorium of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has been equipped with an Allen & Heath GLD-80 digital mixer to support its operation as a performance site for the faculty’s department of music, as well as other speech and music performance courses.
The GLD system takes on main FOH mixing, and is fitted with a Dante card for use with playback and recording software, and to provide multitrack live recording if required.
The installation is part of a wider upgrade of the hall, with the audio handled by Seapower Technologies.
‘Not only did we have to focus on the acoustic treatment of such an old room but also on the visual results,’ says Sales Manager Hsiao Chia-Hsing, who is a graduate of the university. ‘Consequently, we consulted with the other contractors involved in managing the building works, the lighting, rigging, stage, air conditioning and interior design, in order to ensure that the audio system was discreet. GLD was the obvious choice – the system’s integrated digital dSnake made installation in the listed building simple, and its compact and sleek design offers a small footprint. Furthermore, GLD’s easy user interface is a huge benefit for attending students.’
Formerly Taipei High School, the University is classed as an historic building, and as such during the audio design phase concerns were raised by the audio contractor about room acoustics.
