APG MD, Gregory DapsanseLoudspeaker manufacturer APG introduced what it has dubbed the ‘Uniline Solution’ at the recent JTSE show in Paris.

‘The Uniline Solution is a comprehensive, multi-layered network that we have put in place to optimise the exploitation of Uniline in the marketplace,’ says APG MD, Gregory Dapsanse At the first level, this involves rental companies already owning a Unline system and who are APG-certified Uniline users. The second level comprises rental companies without a system, but certified users that can sub-hire a system whenever necessary. The third level concerns installers and systems contractors who also formally undertake to install Uniline according to APG’s system guidelines, while the final level covers freelance engineers, sound designers, consultants and project engineers who have received Uniline training tailored to their requirements.

The aim is to provide a turnkey solution with full technical support to as wide an audience as possible for consistent, high-level results. ‘We recognise that not everyone who might want to use Uniline is in a position to invest in a system,’ says Dapsanse. ‘The Uniline Solution aims to ensure that everyone who wants to use a system has access to one, and with guaranteed results, because, as we all know, when it comes to using a line array, regardless of the intrinsic performance characteristics of the system, 50 per cent of the sound quality depends on how it is set up in the first place. The Uniline Solution exists in order to guarantee our clients, and our clients’ clients, optimal results every time.’

One of the principal motivations for creating the Uniline Solution that the system lends itself to a broad spectrum of applications. ‘It’s like having ten different systems in one, and we wanted to be sure that our client base was making the most out of their equipment,’ explains Dapsanse. ‘For example, one of our most recent installations is in a 450-seat municipal theatre on the outskirts of Paris where they used three boxes per side, while the same system with 12 boxes per side was used at several outdoor festivals this summer for audiences of over 10,000 people. In reality, Uniline does in fact qualify as a big system, but we’ve cut it in two for maximum modularity and configurability: the system comprises a mid/hi loudspeaker and a separate low-frequency cabinet. As a result, Uniline can be used in just about any situation – flown or ground-stacked – and in any combination (wide band, extended with bass or subs, or in full line array mode with dedicated low-frequency cabinets and subs).

‘In establishing the Uniline Solution we have effectively created a community of people from across the pro audio spectrum who have agreed to adhere to a set of standards concerning Uniline and how it is used in order to ensure that the end user experience is of the highest possible quality. For our part, we will provide all of the necessary training and technical support on a regular basis to ensure that these standards are met.’

Ap present, the concept has been rolled out across France and includes six rental companies with Uniline systems, a further six certified rental company users, and six systems contractors who have already completed Uniline installations.

APG plans to develop the concept in France with the aim of establishing at least 20 Uniline-equipped rental companies across the country and five more in Paris before rolling it out across Europe, starting in Germany and the UK. Regional workshops will be held across France from January 2011. Rental companies and other interested parties wishing to become a part of the Uniline Solution should contact APG’s Xavier Pion for further details.

The Uniline compact line array system is the flagship product of APG’s new-generation range, which also includes the renowned SMX15 monitor speaker and the DX Series compact, low profile multipurpose loudspeakers.
