Germany’s Sommer Cable has announced the SC-Semicolon 4 AES/EBU patch and microphone cable – a compact and durable version of an AES/EBU and DMX capable microphone cable with an added mesh of aramid fibres worked into the outer jacket.
Aramid fibres are a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibres. In addition to Sommer’s application, aramid fibres are used in aerospace and military applications, for ballistic-rated body armour fabric and ballistic composites, in marine cordage, and in marine hull reinforcement.
Sommer’s new aramid cable reinforcement serves as an extra strain relief, greatly increasing the bending cycles and providing added durability. The result is a compact and inconspicuous microphone cable that is a reliable workhorse able to withstand damage in rigorous daily use. The design is particularly popular in broadcast and theatre engineering, and in applications with belt pull cable drums in location broadcast trucks or on theatre stages. It’s also suitable for connecting effects devices and control units where a return signal is required.
