UJAM and the Bob Moog Foundation have partnered to release the Vox Humana plug-in, a standalone virtual instrument that faithfully recreates the Polymoog’s Vox Humana mode, widely regarded as one of the most recognisable synthesiser sounds, famously featured in Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’.

The Vox Humana plug-in is built on the sampled sounds of the Polymoog 280A, carefully captured by composer, producer and synth enthusiast Alex Ball. With these recordings as the basis, the Bob Moog Foundation partnered with UJAM to transform them into a fully realised virtual instrument. Using UJAM’s proprietary Gorilla Engine – widely used by top plug-in manufacturers – the team designed an interface that is both intuitive and faithful to the instrument’s original character.

UJAM Vox Humana plug-inAt UJAM, we owe much of our inspiration to industry pioneers like Bob Moog,’ says UJAM co-founder Peter Gorges. ‘His contributions to music technology have shaped my career and so many others. Supporting the Bob Moog Foundation through the Vox Humana plug-in is an honour, and by waiving all fees, we’re ensuring that every dollar goes directly to advancing its mission and preserving Bob’s legacy for future generations.’

All proceeds from the plug-in will directly support the Bob Moog Foundation’s mission to inspire through science education, preservation, and interactive learning. Its flagship programme, Dr Bob’s SoundSchool, introduces young students to the science of sound through hands-on lessons with electronic and acoustic instruments. The Bob Moog Foundation Archives preserve more than 50 years of synthesiser history, including a vast collection of vintage instruments, schematics, prototypes and recordings. The Moogseum, an interactive museum in Asheville, North Carolina, continues to expand its exhibits and outreach efforts, including ongoing restoration following damage from Hurricane Helene.

‘By purchasing this Vox Humana plug-in, music creators can get their hands on a piece of iconic synthesiser history while also supporting the important work of the Bob Moog Foundation,’ says Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. ‘It’s a chance to connect with the Moog legacy and contribute to the foundation's efforts to inspire the next generation of musicians and innovators.’
