Heritage Audio has released the 73 JR, a plug-in reworking of its 500 Series single-slot design 73-style mic preamp.
The 73-style mic preamp predecessor effectively set the ball rolling for the Spanish company, when CEO Peter Rodriguez called on his considerable knowledge as a civil engineer and music producer to recreate his favourite microphone preamp. Ultimately, every aspect of the design – from the custom Carnhill output transformer (manufactured for Heritage Audio by the British company in its St Ives factory in Cambridgeshire) and input transformer (manufactured in Oxfordshire as another custom Carnhill) – have contributed to the mojo of the hardware, including its discrete class-A high-pass filter. All are meticulously modelled in the 73 JR plug-in.
A Blend control has been added to 73 JR plug-in to allow the preamp to be directly pushed to the limit and achieve parallel gain staging.
The native version of 73 JR is available to purchase as a 64-bit AAX, AU and VST3-format-compatible effect plug-in for MacOS (10.15.7 and higher, with both Intel and Native Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3/M4s compatibility) and Windows (10 and 11) directly from Heritage Audio.
